the handicapped working dog

I saw something impressive yesterday.

A seeing-eye dog was in a wheel chair but doing his duty.

I've seen dogs in those contraptions before, but this was the first time I saw a working dog so outfitted.

I was on my way to work, waiting for an express in the Financial District.

An idler was standing by, running his mouth as usual.

I'm usually patient with that particular idler.

Yesterday I was not.

He was expressing resentments when the handicapped working dog passed.

He seemed not to notice and was clearly irritated that I was distracted.

I directed his attention to the dog.

He responded with some vile and ignorant utterance.

He'll get no more spare change from me.

I'll gladly put the police on him if he asks again.
