Listen to story (Real Audio) BOSTON - April 09, 2008 - The state is helping sponsor a job fair in Westport tomorrow to fill thousands of tourist-season jobs on Cape Cod.
These jobs are typically held by immigrants, but the federal government isn't allowing foreign guest workers to return to their jobs on the Cape this year, so the state is teaming up with the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce to find Massachusetts residents who will clean hotel rooms and fry up clams.
Chamber CEO Wendy Northcross says restaurants and hotels may be forced to offer fewer services.
"They'll be really careful to make sure that they only offer what they can adequately serve," Northcross said. "So that may mean you can't go out to your favorite breakfast spot, but you can probably have dinner there."
The Chamber of Commerce and State will also recruit at high schools in barnstable and bristol counties, along with college campuses.
