Syracuse - Ralph Nader is bringing his presidential campaign to Syracuse on Friday with plans for a public noon rally at the Westcott Theater, a volunteer said today.

Nader, running as the Populist Party candidate, is one of seven presidential candidates on the Nov. 4 ballot in New York.

Nader's campaign is seeking donations of $10 per person, $5 for students, at Friday's rally, said Howie Hawkins, a 25th Congressional District candidate and upstate volunteer coordinator for Nader's campaign.

Nader, who gained fame as a consumer advocate, has endorsed Hawkins in his race against Democrat Dan Maffei and Republican Dale Sweetland.

At 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nader is scheduled to hold a news conference at 2617 S. Salina St., an office that the Nader and Hawkins campaigns are using.

When he ran for president in 2004, Nader received 84,247 votes in New York and 3,027 votes in Onondaga County. He captured 1 percent of the votes cast statewide.

In his 2000 presidential bid, Nader did better. He received 244,030 votes in New York and 7,670 votes in Onondaga County. That equaled 3.5 percent of the statewide vote.

"He's on the ballot in more states this year than he was in 2000," Hawkins said.

Nader and his vice presidential candidate, Matt Gonzalez, a former San Francisco Board of Supervisors president, announced on their web site they are opening 22 field offices this week to try to get votes in the 49 states where they are on the ballot.

I still haven't forgotten 2000. I could just as easily blame you for this mess, you loser. Go home.

...and you're a phony. I actually bought your book and Mr. Environmentalist doesn't even print his books with recycled paper. Phony. Loser.

(end rant.)

Come on, Nader is light years ahead of his time. If we could just enact his environmental policies, we could save 4 or 5 polar bears struggling to keep their heads above water...and Al Gore is my hero!

Wow!

3rd to comment. Compare this to Palin comments.

There is a fine line between optimism and fantasy.

If only you could drain enough votes from the Obama ticket that would be something.
