In the past week, the mention of Mr. Obama's name at rallies held by Mr. McCain and Ms. Palin has produced some ugly invective.
When Mr. McCain asked at one event this week, "Who is the real Barack Obama?" someone in the crowd responded, "Terrorist." At a Palin rally, an audience member shouted "Kill him!"
