JOHN L. STINSON

Funeral service for Rev. John L. Stinson, 61, of Auburn will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at Auburn A.M.E. Zion Church with interment in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pastor Stephen Faulk will officiate. Rev. Stinson passed Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the East Alabama Medical Center. He was an associate minister at Auburn A.M.E. Zion Church where he was actively involved in programs of the church. Prior to his passing, he served as superintendent of the Sunday School Department and as a Trustee. Rev. Stinson worked in various capacities of the Opelika District of the Alabama Conference of the A.M.E. Zion Church. Rev. Stinson was president of the ACE of the Opelika District. He was a graduate of Auburn University (BS) and Alabama State University (MEd). His tenure in the field of education included employment with the Auburn City Schools, the Macon County School System and the Lee County School System where he retired in 2003 as an assistant administrator. His service to the community included: the Auburn Housing Authority Board, the United Methodist Church Mercy Clinic Board, as well as, numerous other boards and organizations. His remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of florals and green plants, the family respectfully request that memorial in his honor be made to Auburn A.M.E. Zion Church Building Fund at P. O. Box 2937; Auburn, AL 36831. Survivors: four sisters, Mary (Bobby Pitts) Echols, Susie Stinson, Mary F. (Willie) Riley and Dorothy Hill all of Auburn; one brother, Lou Clifford (Margie) Stinson, Auburn; a devoted friend and caregiver, Mack Williams, Auburn; three nieces, TaKaysha McCullough, Verlissa (Antonio) Cobb and Andrea Calloway; three nephews, Roderick Stinson, Justin (Ayshia) Calloway and Michael Hill; two great nieces and four great nephews; three aunts, Emma Giles, Bertha Stinson and Odessa Stinson all of Auburn; a great aunt, Bennie Mae Stinson, Opelika; adoptive parents, Dr. John and Janice Salida, Auburn; special friends, Lisa Norrell, Auburn and Algenia S. Thomas, Tuskegee; devoted neighbors, Nannette Phillips and Dill and Betty Williams all of Auburn; caregivers, Barbara Jones, Opelika and Laquitta Love, Auburn; god-daughter, Ashlee Tolbert, Atlanta, GA; a host of cousins, other relatives and acquaintances.
