Linda Sutliff Cone

Linda Sutliff Cone died June 23, 2014 after a year and half battle with a soft tissue sarcoma. She was 61 years old. She was born and raised in Syracuse, NY, daughter of Richard and Doris Sutliff, the oldest of five children, having four younger brothers. She attended Corcoran High School. Always full of energy, she had a deep love of life. She was a professional social worker, receiving her BA degree from the University of Florida (1974) and her MSW from Florida State University (1978). She worked in mental health early in her career; the last 20 years were in long term care. She was employed by the VA in Bedford, Massachusetts for the last 6 .5 years as a social worker for Geriatrics, working in the Community Living Center. She was a highly respected member of the Interdisciplinary Treatment Team. She loved her work, her patients and her co-workers. Linda had many interests and hobbies throughout her life. Married to her ex-husband for 30 years, they lived for 23 years in the Appalachian Mountains in NC outside of Boone, NC before moving to New England. She was a weaver at one time, teaching weaving on large floor looms, as well as doing quilting, crocheting, and knitting. She was a skilled seamstress, and very artistic. She also loved music. Her hobby was photography all her adult life. She took many beautiful photos. She especially loved the great outdoors, enjoying hiking, biking, camping, skiing and snow shoeing. She became an avid walker in the past seven years, walking four miles a day, often times with some of her colleagues, who enjoyed walking with her on the rail trail. She was still walking with her friends just a few months before her severe decline and passing. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching, always having lovely gardens wherever she lived. Linda is survived by two daughters she loved dearly, Erika Cone of Proctorsville, VT and Melissa Cone of Nashua, NH; her mother, Doris Sutliff of Bradenton, Florida; brothers, Jim Sutliff of N. Syracuse, NY, and his four children: Cory, Casey, Jennifer and Colin, William Sutliff and his wife, Carol of Lafayette, NY, and their two children: Christopher and Katie, Richard Sutliff of Fayetteville, NY, and his two sons: Kyle and Bradley, and John Sutliff and wife, Jennifer of Burnt Hills, NY, and their two children: Sarah and Andrew. There are also some great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Linda had arranged for the donation of her body to Harvard Medical School. The family will welcome friends at the Cone home, 51 Robinson Rd, Nashua, New Hamphire at a date to be announced.
