October 3, 2009
Billy N. Lott, 61, passed away in Tully, New York surrounded
by his loving family, after a brief and courageous fight with cancer.
Bill was born on February 24, 1948 in Mendenhall, Mississippi.
He moved to Syracuse at the age of 16 when he was adopted
by the late Reverend Willie and Mrs. Swain.
He graduated from Central Technical H.S. in 1967,
where he met his soon to be wife Denyce Hall.
They were married on December 2, 1967.
Bill received his bachelor's degree from Syracuse University
and his master's in social work in 1986. Bill was employed by
C.E.T.A. in the mid 1970s, providing city youth with employment
opportunities. He also worked at Syracuse Community Health
Center as the clinical director. He was later employed as the
clinical director at Onondaga Pastoral Counseling Center.
He was an adjunct professor of social work at Syracuse University
for 17 years and retired in 2007. He was later appointed as
director of the Violence Intervention Prevention Program
by Mayor Matt Driscoll, working with at-risk youth and acclimating
offenders back into society. Bill was a shining example of a man
who dearly enjoyed being a husband and father first. But most
of all he loved serving the Lord and his life spoke clearly
the words of the Bible "follow me as I follow Christ".
From his early days of ministry with the Rescue Mission to
his later days of city evangelism and ministry, Bill worked
tirelessly to spread the good news of Jesus Christ.
Reverend Lott was pastor of the Greater Love In Christ Church
for the past 32 years where he started the R.E.A.P program
that rehabilitated old city houses. He also helped introduce the
Trauma Response team to respond to city violence with
counseling and support for victims and others.
Throughout his lifetime Rev. Lott has received numerous
awards for his community work, church and personal
clinical work. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Denyce Lott
of 42 years; four beautiful daughters, Lindell Lott (deceased),
Shelva (Jeremy) Monroe, Millicent (Michael) Bundrage,
and Kharyn (Erik) Tobin, and 10 wonderful grandchildren
all of Syracuse; four sisters, Lela (Reggie) Stroud of
Clearwater, Florida, Paulette (Ron) Smith of
Gautier, Mississippi, Helen (Robert) Hunter of
Sanford, Florida, Gwendolyn Swain of
Bradenton, Florida; three brothers, Melvin (Willie Rose)
Lott deceased of Houston, Texas, Pete (Barbara) Odom of
Sanford, Florida, Hiram (Michelle) Swain of Washington D.C.,
and a host of relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

will be Saturday, at noon, both at Greater Love In Christ Church,
2026 Midland Ave., Syracuse.
