ALEXANDER, Mrs. Tommie M., age 89, a resident of Shorter, AL, died Thursday, December 28, 2000 in an out of town hospital. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 2, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. from Nebraska Baptist Church, Hardaway, AL. Burial will follow in Sweet Gum Cemetery with Rev. J. Sullen, pastor, and Rev. G. Sanders officiating. Burton's Funeral Home staff directing. Survivors include: Adrianne E. Chizzie Giles of Shorter, AL; Carrie Lee Peterson of Lynn Haven, FL; Bobby (Annie Laura) Alexander of Tuskegee, AL; Eddie Alexander of Huntsville, AL; Melvin (Josephine) Alexander of Stone Mountain, GA; and Ausby (Flora) Alexander of Decatur, GA; daughter-in-law, Janie Alexander of Shorter, AL; two sisters: Velma Wright of Shorter, AL, and Lobelia Moore of Tampa, FL; and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great- great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. MARTIN, Mary Alice Kennebrew, was born on April 25, 1926 to the late Julius and Rosa Kinnebrew in Shorter, She died Wednesday, May 10, 2000. Services were Wednesday, May 17, from Perry Farm Center, Shorter, Burial was in Mary Magdalene Baptist Church Cemetery. Burton's Funeral Home  staff directed. She was married to the late David "Jack" C. Arrest made in shooting death

The man wanted in connection with the shooting death of 33-year-old Albrick Nolan turned himself in to police custody on Saturday morning, March 31.

The Macon County Sheriff's Office says 22-year-old Tasean Brown turned himself in  and is now being held at the Macon County Jail on $50,000 bond.

Investigators say Nolan and Brown going into an argument at the White House Nightclub on Friday, March 30. The argument ended with the shooting a little more than a mile away on County Road 13.

According to authorities, Nolan was found shot several times with a small caliber weapon around 4:30 a.m. Nolan was a former VictoryLand employee.

Warrants were issued for the arrest of Brown before he turned himself in.

Information for this article came in part from WSFA television. Numerous attempts by The Tuskegee News to reach Macon County Sheriff David Warren were unsuccessful. No calls were returned and Sheriff Department officials said only the sheriff could release details to the newspaper. Warren did appear on camera with WSFA concerning the case.

Richard Carr

Richard Earl Carr Jr., 65, a lifelong resident of Shorter, was taken unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 3. Funeral services will be Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Tallassee. Rev. Glenn Pugh will officiate and burial will follow in Calebee Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitation will begin at noon prior to service.

Richard was the co-owner of Ray & Carr Farms, R&C Grocery, Agri-Trans LLC and Carr's Tree Service.

Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son-in-law, uncle and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hilda (Weldon) and Richard Earl Carr Sr. and his nephew Marvin Fiala Jr. Richard is survived by his wife of 42 years, Betty Ann, his son, Richard Earl Carr III (Kelli), two grandchildren, Gracie and Tyler Carr and his sister Bobbie Ann Fiala (Marvin Sr.).

He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Ann Sheppard, sisters-in-law Jane Bellew (Jeff), Martha Daughtry (Wayne McLendon), "sister and brother" Floyd and Elaine Johnson, nieces and nephews, Lisa Daughtry Campagna (Marc), Laura Daughtry Evans (John), Eric Daughtry, Leanne DuBose Burfitt (Adam), Matt Bellew, Katie Bellew, Scott Fiala and many great nieces and nephews.

Richard was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Tallassee. He served as a board member of the macon County Farmer's Federation and was a member of the Alabama Cattleman's Association.

Richard was the first to extend his love and support to everyone, especially those in need. He was a true servant of God and will be truly missed by his family, community and all who knew him.

Pallbearers are Tommy Ray, Jeremiah Boyd, Kevin Thomas, Sam Brooks, Melvin Sullins, Andy Lacey, Robert McCutchins and Shep Morris. Honorary pallbearers are Russell Ray, Bob Moore, Ted Johnson, Albert Felder, Terry Chesson, Haywood Floyd, Bennie Samuels, Eddie Segrest, John Jolley and Roger Miller.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Nebraska Missionary Baptist Church for the senior citizens and youth program (3005 County Road 13, Hardaway, AL 36039 ) or to the humane shelter of your choice for abandoned or abused animals.



Funeral arrangements will be handled by Corbitt's Funeral Home in Tuskegee.
