This Saint Patrick's Day is different

Saint Patrick's Day

For the past ten years I have marked this day by photographing Boston's Saint Patrick's Day parade for Aunt Josie.

She got a kick out of seeing the mirth and pageantry of people celebrating her birthday, unwittingly.

I did not go today.

Aurora Borealis danced quietly in the predawn sky when I bought an airplane ticket to Aunt Josie's funeral.

I spent the afternoon preparing for a, not entirely sad, journey to my Alabama home and remembering.
